This advanced level course will cover everything you need to know to to raise your own high-quality queen bees.
We will break down the queen rearing process into simple steps, and provide you different options for completing each step so that you can tailor the process to suit your needs and abilities. Topics include selection and maintenance of breeding stock, record keeping, grafting and alternatives, handling and transporting queen cells, creating and maintaining mating nucs, catching queens, and how to integrate queen rearing into your apiary management plans.
This course is offered on June 9-10, 2018. Sessions will be held from 10:00am-4:00pm each day in Hamilton, Ontario We will be spending time at our grafting yard and one of of queen mating yards. Minimum class size of 5, maximum of 12 participants. The course will be a mix of classroom and hands-on instruction.
